Volume 1 - April Theme: Commence to Conquer Clutter

Dessert: A Cluttered Assortment of Individual Wrapped Candy

Candy: Brach® AbraCabubble

  • Have women bring something unwrapped, in good condition, which they are willing to donate. Give out play money in individually numbered envelopes. (For 30 women prepare 30 envelopes numbered 1-30.) Start with $5 in fake money in one envelope and increase the amount in each envelope by $1. Women will flash their numbered envelope to Clutter auctioneer when bidding on someone else's clutter. Clutter auctioneer will start the bidding with gavel at, "One Clutter Clutter, two Clutter Clutter , three Clutter Clutter," etc., until, "SOLD to highest bidder!"

  • Designate an auctioneer and a banker to make change. Give two prizes at end of auction.

    • 1. Guest whose item sold for the greatest amount
    • 2. Guest whose item sold for the least amount

Make sure the prizes are small so as not to add clutter to their home! For instance, a trash bag or a bag from a local charity that will inspire them to conquer clutter.

  • Highlight Dan Aslett's book, Clutter's Last Stand, for inspiration.

DON'T FORGET

Announce next SWEET MONDAY date. Distribute sign-up sheet for three courses for next month's Proper English Tea Party (Appendix). Ask women to bring their own teacup (BYOTC). Tell women they may dress to the hilt or come as they are!

Tied to a Generous God

Theme: Commence to Conquer Clutter

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10:24 NIV

REMARKS

When you really think about it, good organization frees you up for more time to put love into action with good deeds. When I begin to unclutter, little by little, it is freeing. I'm not just talking about uncluttering my home, but my mind, heart, and schedule as well. Often I've said to God, "Oh Lord, I don't want to miss anything you have for me because I know it is the best."

Uncluttering, whether it's a big undertaking or little by little, is a step toward more time with others. Why not begin with one little drawer in your home, or putting aside one novel or television program that will clutter your mind with matter that is not true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy? Philippians 4:8

PRAYER

Oh, Lord, sometimes I think you are probably tired of hearing it, but truly, I don't want to miss anything you have for me. Why would I want to miss your best? Help me to forget what is behind and strain toward what is ahead (Philippians 3:13). Help me also not to hold too tightly to things.

NOTE

This is also a great time to introduce the Real Meaning of Easter. I serve Hot Cross Buns from my favorite grocery store (Ukrop's) and share how many people across the globe bake and eat hot cross buns during the Easter season. The white frosting represents holiness and purity and the cross stands for the cross of Christ. This is the only time of year they make these spicy buns with a white cross of sugar marked on the top. Long ago, similar buns were used in a pagan festival to honor the spring goddess Easter, from whom some believe our holiday Easter was derived.
