“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:12
We have four wonderfully unique, strong children. I am convinced they have taught their parents almost as much as we have taught them through the years. Parenting is “on the job training” and offers countless opportunities to kneel in prayer, be humbled, learn and grow.
Our eldest daughter is now 22 years old. In the midst of a difficult situation in high school…we were going round and round on a certain topic. Finally, at a point of exhaustion for both of us, she wisely said, “Mom, if you are quiet on this subject…maybe I’ll be able to hear God’s voice.” Whoa.
In this moment, our daughter recognized a profound truth…as children of God, we need His voice to be the loudest one in our heads and hearts. As believers, we experience seasons where the closeness of God’s presence almost feels tangible. Then, if your faith walk is anything like mine, there are other seasons when I pray and feel a bit like I’m leaving God a voicemail. Crickets.
The truth about our Heavenly Father is this…He is always in the business of being God. As Scripture says:
“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:12
“My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
Sometimes God’s voice is “booming” and there is clarity. Sometimes God’s voice is a whisper. Sometimes God’s voice is silent. Take heart though… God is ALWAYS attentive and listening. He will meet your deepest needs in His perfect timing.
If you know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, then you are a child of The Creator of the Universe (WOW!)…you are beloved…you are seen, heard and invited into the most precious life-giving and life-changing relationship that exists.
Lord, we invite You to be the loudest voice in every aspect of our lives. Thank You for caring about both the big picture and the details. In Jesus Name. Amen.
