“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
If you watch any television at all, then I am pretty sure you have heard, at least a few times, the phrase be the first to call and you will receive (whatever deal) but you have to call NOW! It took me a while when I was younger to learn that this is merely a ploy by advertising companies, to get names and other information in a database for further attempts to sell me something.
A dear friend told me of a time when she had been lured into one such deal. She and her husband agreed to be part of a group that would spend the better part of a day meeting with folks about a Timeshare. For committing their precious time, they were shown a photo of what appeared to be a set of nice luggage, which at the end of the agreed time, they would receive. So, when the talk ended, they were presented with a lovely set of cosmetic bags (that matched!) big enough to fit into a woman’s large sized purse. You see, the photo was deceiving and the deal was too good to be true!
Friend, although Scripture tells us that we are created in God’s image, nothing in our human nature that has anything to do with deception comes from our Creator! The Bible, His very Word and every word to us, may sound too good to be true but it is true. Whether we believe it or not, nothing can change its validity. Recently, I was having a conversation with someone who said he really wants to have faith and believe Jesus is the “real thing” but is struggling to settle the matter. Read what Jesus said in the Book of Matthew 7:7-8: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Perhaps you find yourself in a similar situation. You want to have faith but are having a hard time getting there. It just may be you are getting in your own way. James wrote this, “But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” (James 1:6) In other words, when we ask, seek and knock, do these things expectantly. When we do, our eyes will be opened to experience the amazing promises of God!
Lord, we ask that our faith be expanded to receive the knowledge of Your truth, through Jesus Christ Who makes all things possible. AMEN
To The One Who has made all things possible…Jesus!
